Sara + Danβs North Cascades National Park wedding was an intimate, dreamy boho wedding if Iβve ever seen one. Seriously – every single detail they included in their day was FILLED with intention and brought to life beautifully in a chic, bohemian style!! Everything about their day screamed them, and despite multiple last-minute plan changes, it all came together so perfectly.

Sara + Dan: The Backstory
Now weβve gotta start off with a lilβ love story – because we all wanna hear those sappy rom-com-esque stories of how couples fell in love, right?? (at least I do)
How they met
Sara + Dan met through mutual friends, despite him living in Arkansas at the time. He came to visit and they met, then became super good online friends, and eventually she developed a crush on him while she helped him move to Oregon later on. She figured that he liked her, so she went for it, kissed him, and everything fell into place from there!!
Their romantic proposal story
Ugh these two are the cutest. Seriously. They went on an amazing vacation to Kauai and absolutely fell in love with the island – how could you not!! On the second day of their trip, they got up early and hiked Waimea Canyon, and on their way home, Sara wanted to stop to grab some bread to feed nearby chickens. Apparently he took wayyy too long to bring her the bread so when he got it, she grabbed it to start feeding the chickens. When she turned around he got down on one knee and asked her! She cried, they celebrated, and went on to plan their dream wedding day in the Washington mountains.
Their Intimate North Cascades Wedding
Stunning boho wedding decor + details
Ohhh man I still cannot get over the freaking stunning details Sara + Dan incorporated into their wedding. They chose a modern boho theme and reallyyy made it come to life through a warm color palette full of oranges, reds, & pinks, bouquets with pampas grass accents, and a dreamy AF table scape decorated with a giant boho floral installation & antique glassware. Milwaukie Floral did an incredible job of using flowers to really bring their vision to life!!
Sara also wore the most elegant, chic pearl jewelry that went perfectly with the boho theme of the day. Not only did she pick out a super beautiful pair of unique pearl earrings, but she also chose a necklace with a hanging pearl back piece. Back pieces are TOTALLY underrated in my opinion; theyβre such a chic way to add a unique touch to an open-back dress!!
Dan hit the warm, earthy boho theme on the nose with the outfit he chose: a plaid green top with rust orange pants. Green and orange alwaysss look killer out in the mountains & forests of Washington. And Sara added that outdoorsy vibe to her outfit by wearing cute (and obviously practical) floral-patterned hiking boots under her dress – who cares about pretty heels when youβre exploring the outdoors on your wedding day!
A first look in the woods
Since their wedding took place right at the height of fall, Washington blessed us with the most amazing fall color palette for their big day. Sara + Dan chose to do a first look in the woods before their ceremony, in the midst of piles and piles of pretty orange leaves & plenty of greenery. And they brought their dog Eevee along to share the special moment with, of course!!
Their fall wedding ceremony at Picture Lake
Sara + Danβs ceremony was one of my fave parts of the day – mostly because their dog Eevee literally laid down on Saraβs dress for almost the WHOLE ceremony. I mean have you ever seen anything cuter than a vow exchange + first kiss with your dog chilling on your dress in the background?!
Dan actually broke his foot two weeks before their elopement, so we had to change locations at the last minute. And if youβre not familiar with this area of the Mount Baker wilderness, thereβs a gorgeous viewpoint at the top of the road called Artist Point. But you have to go at the right time, because the gate to the last 1.8 miles of road closes in the late fall due to snow.
We thought we were there early enough that the final stretch of road would still be open, buuut apparently it closed off early. So we had to change locations once again! Poor Dan hobbled along on his cane and had tons of painkillers running through his veins.
They also chose to add a unique, personal touch to their ceremony by writing their intentions before the wedding, then they burned them during the ceremony. It was such a sweet ceremony with only a couple of their closest loved ones, with Picture Lake looking beautiful in the background.
Wedding portraits + a first dance at Bagley Lakes
After their ceremony, we hiked to the Bagley Lakes area for evening portraits surrounded by the beautifullll mountain views & autumn colors. They also shared their first dance there, which was super sweet, and they brought along a blanket to cozy up in since it got a bit chilly.
Overall, despite all the last-minute plan changes, Sara + Dan went with the flow and we ended up with such a killer day for them to celebrate their love. Honored to have been a part of it!!
About Picture Lake + Bagley Lakes
If youβre wondering about the locations we shot at in the Mount Baker area & are maybe considering them for your own wedding, hereβs some more info about them! (theyβre great backup locations just in case the gate to Artist Point closes early for your elopement, too)
Picture Lake
Picture Lake is a super beautiful lake near the Heather Meadows area of Mount Baker off of Highway 542, past the town of Glacier, WA. Itβs really easy to get to via just a 0.5-mile roundtrip walk, so itβs a great spot for couples who donβt want to hike or who need an ADA-accessible path! The path is dog-friendly for anybody looking to bring their 4-legged friend(s) along just like Sara + Dan did π
Bagley Lakes
The two Bagley Lakes are another gorgeous option for a ceremony or for portraits, whether you want to be surrounded by autumn colors or youβd rather be next to wildflower meadows in the summer. The hike to the lakes is just a 2-mile hike which starts from a parking lot, and is pretty easy for anybody who wants to go on it.
